Attention all fire departments of Arkansas:

The Arkansas Association of Fire Chiefs is sending out this information so
that all Arkansas fire departments can remain proactive when it comes to
dealing with disasters and access to federal support.

The federal Dept. of Homeland Security has informed us of their intent to
have all agencies adopt the National Incident Management System (NIMS) by
October 1, 2004.  Attached is a Word file with a sample resolution that your
agency/county can use to officially adopt NIMS. Click here to review file.

The importance of adopting NIMS is to have a standard management system in
place for all-risk disasters and be eligible for future federal funding via
grants, disaster aid, etc.  If you have any questions, please contact Tim
Gehring at ADEM.

For more information on NIMS and related information, go to the Dept. of
Homeland Security and search for NIMS.  There is an agency in DHS called
"Ntl. Information Center or NIC" that provides additional guidance and can
answer questions about the program.
